Salvaged from the only surviving cassette copies, these are demo tracks recorded in the mid 70s, mainly at home on a Revox reel-to-reel. Please excuse the not-so-hot quality and the pops and crackles but hey, it kinda suits the music!
Most songs came about as a result of having a contract with Rocket Records and being introduced to Rocky Sharpe and the Razors, later the Darts, who Rocket were interested in. Nothing ultimately happened with Rocket, and I suspect that Rocky Sharpe, being very serious about their rock’n’roll credentials, weren’t that interested in the mostly comic stuff and ‘death’ songs here — must admit that I found it impossible to be that serious about the genre despite having loved it myself in the 50s.
I took the female part on some songs because Rocky Sharpe and the Razors had a female singer in the line-up — no other reason! Please excuse any misogynistic moments — it was the 70s!
I’ve also included a few later things done around that time, including ‘Got Wheels’, which I’d describe as skateboard punk; ‘Little Cheetah’, which is straight ahead, nasty punk, and ‘Haul Away Chevrolet’, which is a sort of Beach Boys pastiche.
There you go, don’t take it too seriously — enjoy!
